On Friday 23 April Carmel held dual commemoration assemblies to remember Australia's fallen soldiers. The hardworking Primary School Admin and Special Events Committee presented the ANZAC Commemorative Service to the Years 3-6 students. The choir sang beautifully about diggers who fought for us and Talya and Raphael read moving poetry. The students solemnly observed the laying of the wreath and minute’s silence as The Last Post was played.
At the High School Assembly, the School Captains, Judaica Captains and Year 10 history students created a moving presentation on the spirit of Anzac focusing on the Vietnam “Forgotten War”, as it often doesn’t receive the recognition or respect devoted to the two World Wars. The assembly’s mood was sober and reflective as students laid a wreath in memory of the fallen by the flags at Kadima.
“And can you tell me doctor, why I still can’t get to sleep? And why the Channel 7 chopper chills me to my feet? And what’s this rash that comes and goes, can you tell me what it means? God help me. I was only 19."
